Akers Land & Ecology Ltd have a vast amount of experience in supplying and installing various types of newt fencing (also known as amphibian fencing). We have invested in and developed state of the art installation equipment that enables quick and efficient installations of newt fencing.

We are able to supply and install any length of newt fencing from 200lm to over 20,000lm and travel to sites throughout the country.

Whether you’re an ecologist or project manager dealing with a site with ecological issues we would be delighted to hear from you to discuss your requirements or provide a quote.

The great crested newt ‘Triturus cristatus’ is an amphibian native to the UK, and is listed as a “strictly protected fauna species” Under these regulations it is an offence to intentionally disturb, injure or kill any great crested newt, or disturb or destroy its habitat.  That’s why here at Akers Land & Ecology we strive to work sensitively with ecologists whilst also keeping the clients time constraints at the forefront of our work ethos.

Temporary exclusion newt fencing / temporary amphibian fencing (TAF)
Temporary newt fencing is constructed with a UV resistant membrane attached to wooden stakes and buried in the ground. A double fold at the top of the membrane prevents newts and other amphibians from passing over the top.

Permanent newt fencing and semi-permanent newt fencing
Made from HDPE (high density polyethylene) in various thicknesses this fencing lasts for up to 15 years. It is more durable than the temporary newt fencing and therefore is more suitable at sites where the newt fencing may be subject to damage from construction workers or vandalism.

Bespoke and one-way newt fencing
We supply and install temporary and permanent one-way newt fencing. We can also install any bespoke fencing necessary to deal with specific issues that may exist at your site, such as wire mesh ditch crossings.

Pitfall traps and artificial refugia
We understand the importance of carefully installed pitfall traps and artificial refugia to translocate newts. Our services include the supply and installation of pitfall traps, mammal ladders and floats. We also supply artificial refugia in the form of carpet tiles to help translocate newts.

We also supply and install reptile fencing, water vole fencing and badger fencing.
